- The Carrboro Citizen: Rain or shine, Sunday is Carrboro Day

Issues:

Comments

There's a slate of activities at Wilson Park as well.

7:30 a.m. Birding (2-3 hours) Tom Driscoll, New Hope Audubon Society
10:00 a.m. Geo-Hike Rob Greenberg, Geologist, Chapel Hill High School
1:00 Bolin Bike Hike Stewart Bryan, TORC
3:00 Carrboro "Land" run Trailheads (4-5 miles)

____________

I'm for Stewart Bryan's Bike Hike - he's a great skill and trail builder - the good kind of trails - those you can't see, as opposed to the stunt pits, ramps, etc.

Of course, I like that trail run too at 3pm. We'll spend some time on the inner trails off Bolin Creek, head up Nader Valley, Jungleland, Catapult Canyon, and tour the lovely cairns on the Dragon's Back.

Come out and run some trails!

A certain member of my family is very excited about the firehouse tour.

My favorite activity on Carrboro Day is watching Dee Shankle & crew run sound for nine different bands, each with a different mix of instruments and vocals.

My least favorite activity, as a committee member and co-chair of this year's event, is watching the weather. I think it will rain tomorrow. If it does, most of the scheduled events will take place in the Carrboro Century Center. We're stuck with whatever decision we make at 11:00.

WCOM and WCHL will announce the "bad news" which isn't so bad ... CC works better than well in a pinch.

Probably won't rain, but it's looking windy.
From the NWS:

Sunday: Showers likely, mainly before 8am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 63. Northeast wind between 14 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Cleaning up after a near-family-wide bout of stomach virus, so we'll have to pass this year. I always enjoy the book sale and the kids have loved the crowds, crafts, and excitement.

We had a nice time at Carrboro Day. The firehouse and firehats and police dog were big hits.

The weather was perfect! The shame with Carrboro's great 4th of July celebration is that it's too darn hot to really enjoy it (or at least that was the case last year). So a cool May day was a wonderful surprise.

Yes, it seemed almost bizarre to actually have a spring day. The kids went wild over the water balloons in flight. Young and old were mesmerized by Josh Lozoff's magic. And, for a second, I thought I heard Bo Lozoff chanelling Johnny Cash (if anyone could do it... ) but then I realized Bo'd left the stage and a recording was playing.

And kudos to the Friends of Carrboro Library for including fresh apples at their bake sale!

I liked getting to sit down and actually listen to Great Big Gone (supplying the kids with hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy assisted in this.)
My 5 year old votes for Drawing With Chalk.

Bo Lozoff did channel Johnny Cash briefly on the Carrboro Day stage, and always does at his prison concerts.

There were a couple of minor glitches in the program. One performer didn't show up (the gap filled itself naturally) and a circuit blew at one point (Public Works to the rescue).

Every penny ($1444) from the hot dog/popcorn concession went to the Carrboro Branch Library in connection with their book sale.
