This Week in Orange Politics: May 19-25

Budgets will be the primary topic covered this week by Orange County’s public bodies with the Carrboro Alderfolks, the Chapel Hill Town Council, Hillsborough Town Board and county commissioners all working on spending plans for the next fiscal years. Both school boards will take a break from meeting this week.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

Regular Meeting: Tuesday, May 20th, 7:30pm, Carrboro Town Hall Board Room

  • Agenda Items of Note:

    • There will be a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year 2014-2015 Budget

    • The Board will be asked to approve an amendment to the Legends Housing Development’s Conditional Use Permit to convert affordable units to market rate.

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

Public Hearing: Monday, May 19th, 7pm, Southern Human Services Center

  • Agenda Items of Note:

    • The Council will open public hearings on the manager’s recommended budget, an application from the County to amend their SUP for the Southern Orange County Government Services Campus, and the Municipal Service District for the Ephesus-Fordham area.

    • The Council will also review the concept plan for the proposed Weaver Crossing development at 171 Weaver Dairy Road.

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

There is no meeting scheduled this week. The next meeting is scheduled for June 4th.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Regular Meeting, Tuesday, May 20th, 7 pm, Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill

    • The board get will consider additions and revisions to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO)

    • The board will address a request from the county transportation board to authorize the planning staff to review several standards in the UDO

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

There is no meeting scheduled this week. The next meeting is scheduled for May 28th.

$3.7 million is a big chunk.But we are wasting over $1 million annually shipping our waste to two Durham Cty transfer stations because county leadership allowed it to happen. We need our own transfer station so we can stop the financial bleeding.
