This Week in Orange Politics: June 2-8

It’s relatively slow this week in Orange County, but there’s still plenty going on. The Carrboro Alderpersons will consider affordable housing and amendments to the Joint Planning Agreement, who, their Chapel Hill counterpart will work on the budget and discuss what to do with the Old Library Property. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board will also talk about implementing a Mandarin Chinese program, while the county commissioners will have a full agenda that includes the budget, rural curbside recycling and transportation project prioritization.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

Regular Meeting: Tuesday, June 3rd, 7:30pm, Carrboro Town Hall Board Room

    • The Board will review the Community Home Trust’s draft charter concerning the provision of affordable housing.

    • The Board will consider amendments to the Joint Planning Area Land Use Plan and the Joint Planning Agreement to allow new uses within the Rural Buffer including agricultural uses.

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

Work Session: Monday, June 2nd, 6pm, Chapel Hill Public Library

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

Regular Meeting: Thursday, June 5th, 7pm, Chapel Hill High School Auditorium

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

Regular Meeting, Tuesday, June 3rd, 7pm, Department of Social Services, Hillsborough

    • The board will vote to create a Solid Waste Workgroup and consider curbside recycling options

The Chapel Hill Town Council is set to hold another work session tonight (6pm, at the Chapel Hill Public Library) to continue budget discussions. They'll vote on the final budget next Monday, June 9th.
