Why elect Rani Dasi to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education?

Education is a critical enabler of individual success and community growth. The CHCCS board serves an important role in setting policies and creating an environment that enables learning.  I would like to be one of the seven board members who influence public education in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School district.

What do I bring to the table?

  • Long engagement in education:  Since moving to Chapel Hill in 2007, I have been an active contributor to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, volunteering in classrooms, participating in the Reading Partners program, Walk for Education, PTA, serving on the Seawell School Improvement Team (SIT) and in my current role as parent chair of the Smith Middle School SIT.  Additionally, as a parent of four children in different stages of the education process, I have worked with teachers, staff and administrators to help drive learning.  This engagement has given me perspective on the challenges of all of the parties involved.
  • As an undergraduate, I studied engineering at Northwestern University and introduced high school students to careers in engineering.  Post-graduation, my work focused on optimizing processes in manufacturing and managing capital budgets.Building on my interest in continued learning, I attended graduate school at the University of Chicago earning an MBA in Finance and Accounting.  After graduation, I tutored students at an inner city school in Chicago and served as a mentor for the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, tutoring and mentoring high school students.
  • Twenty years of professional experience in corporate finance and strategic planning:  In posts ranging from financial analyst, where I honed analytical skills and developed expertise in budgeting and finance, to brand chief financial officer, where I managed long-term strategic planning efforts and led large project teams, I have developed strong collaboration and communication skills.   This experience could contribute to the CHCCS discussion on current budget challenges, and other district issues relating to planning for future growth.

Multicultural background:  enabling sensitivity and incorporating multiple points of view in decision making

I will bring all of these experiences to the board. But most importantly, I will bring a long-standing passion for and focus on improving educational outcomes and a commitment to work constructively with other board members to deliver excellent educational results.

I look forward to community perspective on issues related to education.  Please feel free to visit my website at http://www.dasiforschoolboard.com/ to share your thoughts.

Thank you
