DACA and Local Schools

I'm back to teaching at CHHS for a long term sub position. The school district just shared this about DACA.

"CHCCS Students, Staff and Families.

President Trump’s recent decision regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program has caused a heightened sense of concern for many in our community. There are still unanswered questions and increased anxiety over what the future holds.

Please know, NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN OUR SCHOOLS! Our schools are safe places where children can learn, play and grow. While government leaders debate the legal ramifications and potential appeals, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools remains – as always – committed to the safety and protection of our children.

We continue to welcome everyone, regardless of how they got here. If a student resides within the boundaries of our school district, then we will provide that child with a world-class education. We never ask about the immigration status of a student or family. In fact, we are not allowed to ask, nor do we have any desire for that information.

Our school board members and our superintendent are unified in our support of Congress to pass legislation that would provide undocumented students with security. These children have done nothing wrong and do not deserve to have their lives turned upside down for political reasons beyond their control.

We stand with them in their dream…and will do everything in our power to make that dream a reality.

Sincerely,

Your Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools"
