Rainy day notes

WCHL reports that education blogger David Warlick is conducting a "three-day workshop for teachers in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School System." This sounds like a much better reaction than some communities which have responded to the prospect of teenagers blogging with terror and tried in vain to stop it. David is a real blogger and hopefully will be able to impart some blog culture as well as technical training. I look forward to seeing some great new blogs blossom from this effort.

The N & O reports that recently-annexed Carrboro residents have a little more time to respond to the town's survey requesting input on collective priorities.

And also this has me skeptical:

The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau will hold a public forum Thursday to discuss travel and tourism in Orange County and its towns and communities.

The forum, which also launches the Orange County Tourism Partnership, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Siena Hotel at 1505 E. Franklin St.

The guest speaker is Teresa A. Damiano, director of marketing with Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

May I suggest that they not use the slogan "a sophisticated travel destination?" ;-)

Public forum during the work day at the Siena Hotel with a guest speaker in just 90 minutes? And who is this partnership between? How much does lunch cost? What is the public expected to do or react to? Clearly they - whoever they are - don't really care about whatever the folks who live here think or believe that any "ordinary" people might have anything to contribute (at least those not in the insider's loop on this). Isn't the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau funded, at least partially, by tax money?

Forum lunch costs $20 per the Visitors Bureau.

I wonder if the blogging workshop is elective, and whether or not the teachers who attend will be compensated for three days or just the one slated for Warlick's presentation. Days 2 and 3 = technical experimentation.
