This Week in Orange Politics: September 29-October 5

The main event this week in Orange County will be a meeting between the County Commissioners and both local school boards. The three groups will debrief this year’s budgets and discuss a possible 2016 bond referendum among other things. While the Carrboro Alderfolks and the Hillsborough Town Board take a break this week, the Chapel Hill Town Council will consider Ephesus-Fordham, Obey Creek and the town’s Affordable Housing Fund.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

• There are no scheduled meetings this week. The board’s next meeting will take place Tuesday, October 7.

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

• Business Meeting: Monday, September 29th, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • The Council will consider the Stormwater Master Plan, approving a preliminary artwork design for the Chapel Hill Public Library, options for the Town-owned property at Ephesus-Fordham, and amending the Town's guidelines for the Affordable Housing Fund.
• Work Session: Wednesday, October 1st, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Public Library
  • This work session will be the first devoted to the Obey Creek development agreement process. You can read more about Obey Creek here.

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Joint Meeting with the Orange County Board of Commissioners & Orange County School Board: Tuesday, September 30th, 7pm @ Southern Human Services Center
  • The two school boards will join the County Commissioners to discuss their budgets, receive updates on cross-district courses and the potential for a living wage, and discuss a possible bond issuance for a May 2016 or November 2016 referendum.
• Business Meeting: Thursday, October 1st, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • The Board will receive the Sustainability Report from the superintendent.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

• There are no scheduled meetings this week. The board’s next meeting will take place Monday, October 13.

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

• Joint Meeting with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro & Orange County School Boards: Tuesday, September 30th, 7pm @ Southern Human Services Center
  • The two school boards will join the County Commissioners to discuss their budgets, receive updates on cross-district courses and the potential for a living wage, and discuss a possible bond issuance for a May 2016 or November 2016 referendum.
• Joint Meeting with the Orange County Chiefs’ Association: Thursday, October 2nd, 7pm @ Richard Whitted Meeting Facility
  • The board will get an update on the state of the county’s emergency services and discuss opportunities for staff development and other opportunities for improvement

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Joint Meeting with the Orange County Board of Commissioners & Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board: Tuesday, September 30th, 7pm @ Southern Human Services Center
  • The two school boards will join the County Commissioners to discuss their budgets, receive updates on cross-district courses and the potential for a living wage, and discuss a possible bond issuance for a May 2016 or November 2016 referendum.
