This Week in Orange Politics: January 26-February 2

It’ll be another busy week from Orange County’s public bodies this week. Both the Chapel Hill Town Council and county Board of Commissioners will hold their annual retreats, and both will also hold other meetings where the Ephesus/Fordham Renewal District and associated public improvements will be up for discussion. The Hillsborough Board will get a status update on an invasive plant in the Eno River, while the Carrboro Alderfolks will consider the rural buffer. The county school board will discuss several school improvement plans.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board is off this week.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

• Business Meeting: Tuesday, January 27, 7:30pm @ Carrboro Town Hall
  • The board will continue their discussion of potential agricultural enterprise support uses in the rural buffer.
  • The board will discuss next steps for the condo the town owns above Acme Restaurant (formerly housed business offices for Fleet Feet).

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

• Business Meeting: Monday, January 26, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • Council will receive a progress report on the Ephesus/Fordham Renewal District and consider approving a special use permit for The Edge
• Council Retreat: Friday, January 30, 6pm, & Saturday, January 31, 8:30am @ TBD
  • Council will hold their board retreat this Friday and Saturday.

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

• The Board will not meet this week. The next business meeting will be on February 5.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

• Monthly Workshop: Monday, January 25th, 7pm @ Town Barn
  • The board will receive a status update on an invasive plant (Hydilla) in the Eno River.
  • The board will discuss a new position within the police department

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

• Work Session: Tuesday,January 27, 7pm @ Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill
  • The board will get an update on the FY 2015-16 budget
  • The board will hear about the Ephesus Church Road/Fordham Boulevard Public Improvements
• Annual Retreat: Thursday, January 30, 9am @ Richard Whitted Meeting Facility, Hillsborough
  • The board will get the 2015 update to 2009 Goals and Priorities from the county manager
  • The board will explore a range of questions to determine if these projects should be funded within the existing tax rate versus sponsoring a bond referendum
  • The board will review some of its procedural policies, including the county’s boards and commissions and how it handles petitions it receives

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Regular Meeting: Monday, January 26, 6pm @ Central Office Board Room, Hillsborough (Closed Session begins at 4pm)
  • The board will get an update on the community visioning plan
  • The board will review and consider approving several school improvement plans
