This Week in Orange Politics: February 16-22

Though the Carrboro Alderfolks and Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board are both are break this week, it’ll still be a busy week for Orange County’s public bodies. The Chapel Hill Town Council will consider Obey Creek and talk about a number of other development proposals currently on the table, while the county school board will consider approving its strategic plan.

The Hillsborough Town Board will hold a workshop on stormwater and Riverwalk, and host a joint meeting with the county commissioners covering transit, economic development, planning and host of other issues.

Other events across the county this week include a town hall with Chapel Hill Town Council member Lee Storrow and a meeting of the Chapel Hill Transit Partners. We’ll also hold our monthly editors meeting Sunday.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

• There is no meeting this week. The next meeting is Tuesday, March 3rd.

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

• Business Meeting: Monday, February 23, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • Council will consider creating a neighborhood conservation district for the Little Ridgefield neighborhood
  • Council will consider approving a special use permit for The Edge, a proposed development along Eubanks Rd near MLK and I-40
  • Council will open public hearings on the proposed Weaver Crossing development and a proposed zoning change at the adjacent property at 1165 Weaver Dairy Rd.
• Special Meeting: Thursday, February 26, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • Council will meet Thursday as part of the Obey Creek development agreement process

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

• The Board will not meet this week. The Board’s next regularly scheduled meeting is March 5.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

• Monthly Workshop, Monday, February 23, 7pm @ The Town Barn
  • The Board will discuss a policy for Private Property Stormwater Runoff and Drainage.
  • The Board will discuss whether the Riverwalk is available for event reservations and if so, under what guidelines.
• Joint Meeting with the Orange County Board of Commissioners, Wednesday, February 26, Richard Whitted Meeting Facility, Hillsborough
  • The Boards will get updates on the new circulator buses and Amtrak station construction
  • The Boards will discuss a potential 2016 bond referendum
  • The Boards will review various economic development and planning matters

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

• Joint Meeting with the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners, Wednesday, February 26, Richard Whitted Meeting Facility, Hillsborough
  • The Boards will get updates on the new circulator buses and Amtrak station construction
  • The Boards will discuss a potential 2016 bond referendum
  • The Boards will review various economic development and planning matters

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

• The board’s next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 23.
