Current Chairman James Barrett filed for re-election today to the Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools Board of Education, saying he looks forward to one more term to continue the district’s efforts to give every student an excellent education.
Candidates began jumping into the 2017 election Friday, the first official filing day.
The candidate filing period for the 2017 local elections began on Friday, July 7th, and will end at noon on Friday, July 21st. Here's what's in store for this year's elections.
I love Chapel Hill, its beautiful tree-lined avenues, its festivals and celebrations, its Tar Heel pride and progressive, forward-thinking residents. I am seeking a second term on the Chapel Hill Town Council because I believe even a great community can be better. I believe we can make Chapel Hill better than it’s ever been.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools understands the value of strong leadership. And for a school system, that leadership starts with the Board of Education.
With the candidate filing period underway, the school district is planning an information session for any community members who might be considering a run for the Board.
The session will take place on Tuesday, July 18 from 4-5 p.m. at Lincoln Center – the school district’s central office, located at 750 South Merritt Mill Road. All interested are welcome to attend.
“We wanted to offer an opportunity for potential candidates to learn more about the future direction of the school system and how Board members can move the district forward,” said Superintendent Pam Baldwin. “This is a non-committal meeting for the purpose of providing information and answering questions.”

After running for office and being on the ballot the last 4 years i have decided not to run for office this year. I will state my reasons 1 possible reasons for not running occured during the past campaigns which may or may not be valid GARY KAHN after 4 years on the ballot never heard of him . I have called these people as a result POLITICAL MORONS who don t give a crap about our town county or country. 2 hasn t lived in CHAPEL HILL FOR 25 years, hes a NEW YORKER, HES JEWISH, HE A NEW YORKER AND JEWISH, HE S NEVER BEEN MARRAID, HAS NO FAMILY EXCEPT A BROTHER WHO IS A COLLEGE PROFESSOR IN NEW JERSEY.
