OP Editors's blog

OP takes a holiday

Next week all of OrangePolitics will be on vacation! The archives will remain available, but no new comments will be allowed and there will be no new posts from Sunday 8/21 to Sunday 8/28.

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy the summer weather before schools starts again and the fall campaigns get fully underway.

Talk fast

To keep the conversation moving forward here, all posts will now expire after a certain number of days. I propose 90 days, but I'm open to suggestions.

This change will take effect on Monday so you can get any last words in over the weekend.

Goodies

I have a few cool new things to announce for OrangePolitics users.

First, you can now preview your comment before you submit it. Just look below the Submit button and you will see a live preview that updates as you type!

Second, user registration is now open to all. You may make your own account here by clicking on the Register link near the top of the right-hand navigation bar. Right now, the only thing this enables you to do is create your own user profile and write draft guest posts. If you do register, be sure to click on the Users tab to fill in your profile. And if you write a guest post, drop us a line to let us know it's there.

In the future, there may be other advantages to registering here, but right now it's mostly a novelty.

Last open thread of 2004

Is anyone left here? I sort of like the ghost town that Chapel Hill becomes at the holidays (and summer, wonderful summer...)

Anyone want to share best-of-2004 stories? Keep it local and keep it positive, I'm going to be strict on this like the endorsement threads.

Credits

One of the really great things about the new blog software we're using, is that there is a large community of people creating plug-ins and customizations for anyone to use. This site would not be possible without these tools, and the assistance of their authors. Deepest gratitude to the entire Wordpress community for making these features possible.
