Durham's big margin for transit -- Orange to vote in 2012?

Durham's  60% to 40% margin for the 1/2 percent transit sales tax eclipsed Mecklenburg's 58-42 margin on its initial vote on the same issue in 1998. In 2012, the two allowed dates for a similar referendum are the primary (currently scheduled for May) and the November general election. Putting the issue on the ballot will involve approval by the Orange County Commissioners, the Durham-Chapel Hill Carrboro MPO, the Burlington-Alamance MPO, and the Triangle Transit Board.

Congressional redistricting - NC going Red

Looks like the new congressional map may threaten the seats of four of the state's seven House Democrats. David Price's seat looks even safer under the new map. But it looks like Brad Miller's seat will likely go red in 2012. Barring some scandal, it doesn't look like Battlin' Bob Etheridge won't be able to unseat Ellmers as her district is even more Republican now.

I guess this is done deal as Purdue can't veto redistricting.

I still find it odd that red, the traditional color of communism, is associated with the GOP...

Early Voting in Orange County

In fall 2010, more than 900,000 people voted prior to Election Day in North Carolina. Our state currently allows local counties to provide early voting sites for periods up to three weeks before Election Day. Here in Orange County, early voting is particularly popular. On the final days of early voting in 2010, the line at Morehead Planetarium snaked  through the planetarium, down the stairs and across the quad as professors, residents and students lined up to vote.
