Barrett Files for Re-election to CHCCS Board of Education

Current Chairman James Barrett filed for re-election today to the Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools Board of Education, saying he looks forward to one more term to continue the district’s efforts to give every student an excellent education. 

Seven Apply for School Board Vacancy

Seven people applied for the vacancy on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education created when Michelle Brownstein resigned last month.

This Week in Orange Politics: November 30-December 6

A new month will bring new and newly re-elected officials to Carrboro and Chapel Hill, and on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board. In addition to the swearing in of new members, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board will consider approving new courses, while the Hillsborough Town Board considers rezoning more than 1,300 acres south od downtown near the intersection of I-85 and N.C. 86.

As we welcome new elected officials, the process will also being for selecting new members for the county commission. Candidate filing opens Tuesday.

This Week in Orange Politics: November 16 - 22

With the elections behind us, Orange County's boards and commissions are getting back to work. The Carrboro Alderpersons' meeting may shape up to be an exciting one, with some in the business community requesting more information from the IFC about it's planned Food First Community Kitchen. The Chapel Hill Town Council will review several concepts and hold public hearings on changes to the LUMO and a special use permit, while the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board will discuss how to use its assigned reserve funds. The county commissions will talk living wage and consider entering into a new interlocal agreement for "Launch Chapel Hill"

Both the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners and the county school board are on break this week. The Assembly of Governments meeting originally scheduled for November 19 has been cancelled.

This Week in Orange Politics: June 14-21

Both the Carrboro Alderfolks and county commissioners will consider approving their budgets for the next fiscal year Tuesday, after the Chapel Hill Town Council meets Monday to discuss Obey Creek and other development projects. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education will consider several smaller items, while its counterpart in the northern part of the county meets in closed session. The Hillsborough Town Board is on break this week.

This Week in Orange Politics: June 1-7

Budgets will be the focus for the both the county commissioners, Chapel Hill Town Council and Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board this week. The Carrboro Alderfolks will talk about the rezoning of the Triem/South Green Lot, while the county commissioners will discuss the Eubanks Road Solid Waste Convenience Center and Southern Government Services Center in addition to their already-mentioned work on the budget. GoTriangle will present the environmental impact studies done of the Durham-Orange light rail corridor.

Both the Hillsborough Town Board and Orange County Board of Education are on break this week.

This Week in Orange Politics: May 4-10

The week in county politics starts tonight when the Chapel Hill Town Council will consider what to do with its vacant seat and continue Tuesday when the county commissioners review solar power development and Carrboro Alderfolks get an overview of the town’s budget for the upcoming year. Later in the week, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board will consider approving several policy changes.

Both the county school board and Hillsborough Town Board will be on break this week.
