WILL RELEASE NEW REPORT: NORTH CAROLINA VOTERS SEE ENDING THE IRAQ WAR AS BEST WAY TO HELP LOCAL ECONOMY
April 21, 2008 - Chapel Hill/ Carrboro - On Thursday, April 24, members of MoveOn.org Political Action in Chapel Hill/Carrboro will release a new report, "Iraq and Recession". The report focuses on groundbreaking poll numbers that show that voters in North Carolina believe that the billions of dollars a week spent on Iraq war should be invested in economic priorities at home.
“Senator Elizabeth Dole and Senator Richard Burr have consistently voted with the President to spend half-trillion dollars on this endless war in Iraq, while ignoring the mounting economic pressures of voters here in North Carolina. The billions per week we’re spending there could be invested in our faltering economy here at home,” said Sarah Nixon local MoveOn member. “It’s time to bring our troops home and use those same dollars for the priorities of most Americans--health care, clean energy, and job creation--to help those hurt by the impending recession.”

available on Franklin and some side streets with out charge after 6pm I
believe. There are also a couple of parking garages on Rosemary and the
planetarium parking lot are available but may still charge.

I've heard some folks call them the David Price Six, which has a nice ring to it. But it's also notable that Representative Price has requested to drop the charges against the six protesters who occupied his office in an effort to get him to more vigorously oppose the war.
Six local protesters go on trial this afternoon on trespassing charges in connection with an anti-war demonstration in U.S. Rep. David Price's office in February.
On March 26, the six -- Laura Bickford, Ben Carroll, Alisan Fathalizadeh, Sara Joseph, Dante Strobino, Tamara Tal -- pleaded not guilty to the charges. They had called on Price to oppose all further funding for the war and to seek an immediate withdrawal of American soldiers from Iraq.
Since then, Price has written a letter to District Attorney Jim Woodall asking him to drop the charges against the six, protester Carroll said in a release.
I got the announcement below by e-mail, and I really debated whether to post it. Recent discussions on OP have turned into polemic debates about the war in general, with nothing specific to Orange County.
So let's try to limit our discussion to our community and our representative. Although our personal opinions about congressional strategy are also pertinent since we are all local people! ;-)
