Pine Knolls
A moratorium on development in Northside and Pine Knolls was enacted this past summer. In the intervening months, staff of the Town of Chapel Hill and members of the Sustaining OurSelves Coalition have worked together to develop recommendations to curb development that is contrary to the spirit of their neighborhood conservation district strictures. A community plan has been developed, which includes recommendations around affordable housing, cultural and historic preservation, enforcement, education and outreach, parking, and zoning.
This information will be presented to the Chapel Hill Town Council at their Monday, January 9th meeting.
Via e-mail from the Town:
On Monday, November 21, 2011, the Town Council will
hold a Public Hearing during which they will consider the adoption of
the Northside and Pine Knolls Community Plan and the enactment of zoning
amendments to the Northside and Pine Knolls Neighborhood Conservation
Districts. The proposed Plan represents the Town and community response
to the temporary moratorium in the Northside and Pine Knolls
neighborhoods that was enacted by the Town Council on June 21, 2011. I
will forward the Public Hearing materials to this list prior to the
meeting.

Public Meeting on Proposed Boys and Girls Club Facility
A public forum will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the
Pine Knolls Community Building, 107 Johnson St., to discuss a proposal
to build a Boys and Girls Club
facility on Johnson Street. The Pines Community Association has worked
closely with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Eastern Piedmont to plan the
Boys and Girls Club at the Pine Knolls Community Center. Plans include
renovating the existing Pine Knolls Community building at 107 Johnson
St. and building a new facility on Town-owned lots at 107A and 107B
Johnson St.
The Town Council must approve the use of Town land for this purpose.
When making such a decision the Council typically considers a wide
range of issues, including the potential effect of the project on the
surrounding community. Residents are invited to share their thoughts,
opinions, and suggestions about this proposal to build a Boys and Girls
Club facility in the Pine Knolls neighborhood.
If you cannot attend the meeting, please share your thoughts by email, telephone, or mail.
