Why should you speak up for the CHS Arts Wing during this difficult budget year?

Little Shop of HorrorsThe Arts Wing does not compete with teaching positions for funding.  Construction projects are funded through construction bonds NOT the operating budget.
  • Federal stimulus package provides $5.5 million in interest-free loans for qualified school construction.  The County Commission needs to vote to accept these funds, which would be paid back over 20 years.  These funds are available for only a two-year window.
  • As built, Carrboro High School does not meet minimum state guidelines for new construction.  The Arts Wing includes classroom space as well as an auditorium, is part of the “core facility” for high school, and is no less essential than a cafeteria, library or gymnasium.
Orange County Commissioners – Budget Hearing
Tuesday, May 26 at 7 p.m.
(Please arrive early – doors open at 6 p.m.)
Southern Human Services Center, 2501 Homestead Rd., Chapel Hill

PLEASE WEAR PURPLE!  County Commissioners need to hear/see your support for the Carrboro High School Arts Wing.

The Arts Wing has finally been put on the funded list by the CHCCS district, but we now need funding approval from the county commissioners.  Chapel Hill News has an article on the recent district approval: http://www.chapelhillnews.com/news/story/50042.html
