This Week in Orange Politics: September 2-7

Though several of Orange County's public bodies are still in recess this week, the Carrboro Alderfolks, County Commission and Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board will all hold meetings this week. A new cultural arts distriction and an update on the towing ordinance are on the docket in Carrboro, while the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board will dsicuss a contract for re-envisioning the district's professional development and compensation policies. The county commissioners will award arts grants and consider a resolution supporting the community use of school recreation facilties.

This Week in Orange Politics: July 14-20

Though many of Orange County’s public bodies are off this week, don’t forget to vote in the runoff/second primary for sheriff. The polls will be open 6:30am to 7:30pm. Both school boards will also be meeting. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board will consider a technology contract, while its Orange County counterpart will get an update on the budget for the upcoming year. The Hillsborough Town Board will have two meetings, one for general matters and other for changes to the Unified Development Ordinance.

This Week in Orange Politics: June 9-15

Budgets will again be the focus of Orange County's public bodies this week. Both the Chapel Hill Town Council and the Hillsborough Town Board will vote to approve their budgets for the upcoming year tonight, while the county commissioners will hold another work session to continue working through their spending plan tomorrow. The Orange County Board of Education will also consider its budget after hearing about strategies to recruit and retain minority teachers. The Carrboro Alderfolks have the development of a new park and an update for the Local Living Economy Task Force on their agenda.

It’s relatively slow this week in Orange County, but there’s still plenty going on. This Week in Orange Politics: May 27-June 1

Though this week is a short one, Orange County’s public bodies have a full calendar. The county school board and county commissioners will both consider their budgets for the upcoming fiscal year, while the the Hillsborough Town Board discusses a proposed historic landmarks program. The Carrboro alderfolks will take on a host of issues including affordable rental strategies and a potential downtown slow zone, while the Chapel Hill Town Council will interview applicants for a restructured Planning Commission and get feedback on the town’s stormwater plan.

This Week in Orange Politics: May 12-18

This week will be a busy one, with each of Orange County’s public bodies holding at least one meeting. The budget will be on tap for both the Carrboro Alderfolks and the County Commissioners. The Commissioners will also consider recycling (again) and work on issues related to childhood poverty. Chapel Hill will resume deliberations on Ephesus-Fordham and potentially vote on the proposal. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board will get an update on it’s long range plan, while its Orange County counterpart will hear about a STEM initiative in the district. Hillsborough's Town Board will talk Summerfest.

This Week in Orange Politics: April 28-May 4

While the Carrboro Alderfolks take a break this week, the Chapel Hill Town Council will consider the proposed Timber Hollow expansion and open a public hearing on the town’s bike place. Tuesday evening, all three school boards will meet to discuss a potential bond issuance schedule and to review charter school enrollment and funding, after the County Commission meets with the Department of Social Services to get an overview of the county’s anti-poverty programs. In Hillsborough, the Town Board will work on priorities for the fiscal year 2015 budget.
