This Week in Orange Politics: September 2-7

Though several of Orange County's public bodies are still in recess this week, the Carrboro Alderfolks, County Commission and Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board will all hold meetings this week. A new cultural arts distriction and an update on the towing ordinance are on the docket in Carrboro, while the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board will dsicuss a contract for re-envisioning the district's professional development and compensation policies. The county commissioners will award arts grants and consider a resolution supporting the community use of school recreation facilties.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

      • A report from the Carrboro Business Alliance on the ‘Think Local First’ Campaign
      • An amendment to the budget to allocate $20,000 of Carrboro Tourism Development Authority to the  Carrboro Recreation & Parks Department to fund town sponsored events.
      • A report back on the towing ordinance.
      • A report on the progress of the planning for a Carrboro Cultural Arts and Creativity District

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

  • The Chapel Hill Town Council is in summer recess until Monday, September 8th

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

  • Regular Meeting, Thursday, September 4, 7pm, Lincoln Center, Chapel Hill

    • The board will discuss contracting with a firm to develop a new model for professional development, teacher leadership and compensation

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

  • The next regular meeting is September 8th at 7:00 pm, Town Barn, Hillsborough

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

  • Regular Meeting, Thursday, September 4th, 7:00 pm, New Board Meeting Facility at 300 West Tryon Street, Hillsborough

    • Agenda items of note:
      • The board will present grants from Orange County Arts Commission
      • The board will consider a resolution, proposed by the Intergovernmental Parks Work Group, supporting the use of school facilities for community recreation purposes.
