Bicycle commuter tax benefit - voting tomorrow

This is getting voted on in DC tomorrow, Sept. 23rd.  It is not really

a local issue, but I wish to post it since I work towards these goals

locally.  If it doesn't pass, perhaps local initiatives could be brought

forward.

*H.R. 6899: Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protection

Act*

Last night the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6899 the "Comprehensive

American Energy Security & Consumer Protection Act"  by a margin of

236-189.  The bill, sponsored by Representative Nick Rahall (D-WV), and

cosponsored by Representatives John Dingell (D-MI), Raymond Green (D-TX),

and George Miller (D-CA), includes the bicycle commuter tax benefit

provision which has been championed by Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR)

for several years.  The provision provides for qualified bicycle commuting

reimbursement for reasonable expenses incurred by an employee for the

purchase of a bicycle, bicycle improvements, repair, and storage.    More

detailed information on H.R. 6899:

It appears, thanks to Senator Wyden, that the companion legislation in the

Senate also includes the bike commuter provision and could come up for a

vote in the Senate either tomorrow or Friday.  If any of you are interested

in sending an alert to your members to contact their Senators to urge them

to support "The Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008, please see the
