The Northside Neighborhood Initiative was launched on March 9, 2015 as a partnership between the Marian Cheek Jackson Center for Saving & Making History, Self-Help Credit Union, UNC-Chapel Hill, and the Town of Chapel Hill. Today a celebration was held that included an update on the progress of that Initiative to keep homes affordable, help long-time residents to stay in their homes, and foster good relationships between permanent residents and students. The highlights included:
- Three homes have been purchased through the Initiative.
- 31 homes have received repairs.
- Noise complaints have dropped by 60%.

Three families have moved in, but 15 properties purchased
Three families have moved into homes that have passed through the landbank that is part of the Northside Neighborhood Initiative (NNI), thus completing the cycle, but the NNI has actually been able to purchased 15 properties this year. Many of these properties in Northside are under construction or renovation (several lots were sold to Habitat for Humanity of Orange County), including where the wall raising took place. Several of these properties are being renovated for the Community Hometrust or Empowerment, INC. and will be available in the next few months. Several more are still in the decision-making process as to their disposition.
