Community Talks About School Equity

On Saturday, February 20, the second community forum on school equity was held: "Excellence with Equity: The Schools Our Children Deserve." The event was cosponsored by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools PTA Council, Organizing Against Racism (OAR)-Orange, the NAACP Youth Council, Movement of Youth, and the Special Needs Advisory Council (SNAC). The event was live-tweeted by OrangePolitics and a number of other attendees.

It's Still the Stupid Party

The GOP is in full blown meltdown right now. Four responses to the State of the Union? Yah ... these guys would like to relitigate the membership list in the union. The fact is, they're after birth control and would really like to revoke the right to vote for people who are brown or have breasts. I mean they are WORKING ON THIS.

Last year at this time, I wrote this missive which the local papers could not run as an OpEd due to its length. I share it here in the hopes that Ruby's masterful spider will help it find an audience.

Safer Schools in Our County

Sending our children to public schools should not be something that causes a parent to get nervous.  I have a child of my own in Orange County public schools, so I know how it can feel.  The fact that so many fear for their child’s safety at school is unfortunate.  The good news is that there is something that we can do about it.

Chapel Hill and Carrboro - Call the Superintendent's Office Today

If you care about education in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools I urge you to take action TODAY.  We are not opposed to parents and students having more options for their education but the financial impact that this charter would make on the district would be devastating. The following text is directly from an email I sent this morning to Dr. Forcella and all school board members.

 Dr. Forcella,
