Carrboro Alderperson Lydia Lavelle is scheduled to make an announcement to the public and the press tomorrow in front of Town Hall. She has long been discussed as the successor to Mayor Mark Chilton who previously announced that he would not be running for re-election after this term.
Mark Kleinschmidt has already announced that he will be running for re-election as Mayor of Chapel Hill. I wonder if Matt Czajkowski will challenge him again, since he can do so without risking his seat on the Town Council this year. This is hardly notable enough to mention at this point given the non-issue of sexual orientation to local voters, but if Lavelle and Kleinschmidt are both elected in November we'll be the first county in NC with two openly gay mayors at the same time.
Any other mayoral rumblings? Tom Stevens has been an immensely popular mayor in Hillsborough, but I haven't heard anything about his plans for the fall.

Carrboro Board of Aldermen Member Lydia Lavelle will be making an announcement on Thursday, April 11 regarding the fall 2013 election.
Lavelle will be making her announcement in front of Carrboro Town Hall under the elm tree at 9:30 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the announcement will be held under the Farmers' Market gazebo.
