I can't help but wonder how many photosensitive epileptics are thrown into seizures by these stupid strobbing ads.
Yet another reason to buy
Yet another reason to buy the N&O.

Hmm ... not sure how to take that DTH comment. But I do know that I Adblocked that gif file the first time I saw it.

I can't think of a good reason to buy either the N&O or the DMH - and this comment is from a guy who loves reading newspapers. The DMH is butt-ugly with looney editorial positions more often than not. That's definitely too high a price to pay just to get the Chapel Hill Herald.
And the N&O? Don't get me started. The news coverage is decent, but why subsidize a paper whose editorial page actually supported the Alito nomination . . . and seems unable to find a coherent position on Bush's Iraq Debacle?
Buying newspapers? Who
Buying newspapers? Who (with Internet access) would do a thing like that?!

Ruby--
Those of us who like print media? Sorry--but I still don't like camping out with my desk top and morning coffee. I like to take the paper out onto my deck and patio, and read it of a morning. It's harder to share sections of a computer.
I don't have a lap-top...but if I did, I STILL don't see myself perusing it the way I do the paper. There's that whole glare issue...
Guess I'm just a luddite at heart.
James--I think the N&O does a pretty good job with the local AND national news--and for now, they are the only game in town. I quit reading pretty much anyone but Molly Ivins on the editorial page years ago...though I do still read the letters-to-the editor.
Besides, they have decent comics.

Wow. Ever pushing the
Wow. Ever pushing the borders of offensiveness.... the Herald's latest flashing ad invites readers to out drink the frat boy and get a free ring tone.
Now, I understand that the advertising department is separate from the news room, but is there anyone over there who understands the value of a journalistic entity's reputation? I guess this is more of the decline we came to expect when Paxton bought the herald last year. It's hard to believe it now, but they used ot be the LEADING paper in the region for online services.

According to the print HS, a new and improved website will be launched July 4th.
Their definition of improved is really flashy? We'll see.
The new website looks really
The new website looks really nice. Much better. More useable, too.
The only changes I noticed
The only changes I noticed were cosmetic. Can someone point out the improvements?
The cosmetic changes alone
The cosmetic changes alone constitute an improvement. It's more useable because one can look at it without throwing up.
It looks like the same old
It looks like the same old ugly and offensive ads are all stll in effect, though.
Ruby, the only ad I see on
Ruby, the only ad I see on the front page is a banner ad at the bottom. And I saw one not-too-bad ad on a page with a story.
The navigation is much better! The top bar for navigation is a huge improvement. It's also much easier to find the "Orange" page, which is where I head after the front page.
"Cosmetics" are a big part of usability. The fact that I could easily navigate the site on first view with the new changes is a good sign.
