Rock n' Roe @ Cat's Cradle

I'm excited about this event for so many reasons. For more info and to sign up for the march, visit this page I made about the March for Women's Lives.

Local musicians will play Thursday for "Rock 'n' Roe," a concert to benefit the Planned Parenthood of Central North Carolina Action Fund and the 2004 March for Women's Lives.

The concert will take place in Cat's Cradle, 300 E. Main St., Carrboro, and feature performers Glory Fountain, Shannon O'Connor, Regina Hexaphone, Ameliorate, Destroyed by Kittens, and Lise Uyanik and the Mobile City Band. The doors will open at 7 p.m.

The March for Women's Lives, organized by a coalition of national women's organizations, will occur on April 25 in Washington.

Tickets for Thursday's concert cost $10.

Ruby,

I am truly sorry for your loss.

Best,

Damion

And Ruby hasn't blocked Damion's posting ability yet. Score one for tolerance!

Melanie

LiBerals won't tolerate intolerance!

But they do, sir, they do! YOU'RE still here, aren't you? And yet your posts are generally OT--and inane. Mr. Hood (and PLEASE don't tell me you think HE'S a liberal) has posted and bears no battle scars. Skywriter, QC, Todd, and Savant post regularly, and while they are frequently disagreed with, they are not only tolerated , but welcomed!

The only reason YOU are generally ignored (and I will ATTEMPT to return to that policy following this post) is that you say NOTHING THAT ADDS TO THE CONVERSATION. Your contributions remind me of nothing so much as the antics of a small child whose mother is on the phone, and that child wants her attention.

Ruby--I apologize for criticizing a fellow poster--but as damion has posted few IDEAS I could hardly criticize those.

Sincerely,

Melanie

Todd, her name is not Roe, it's McCorvey. "Roe v. Wade" was the name of the court case in 1973, and it still is. She doesn't own that, the people of the United States do. For now! http://saveroe.com

Ruby

I was only pointing out that marketing a Planned Parenthood fundraising event using the name Roe does not seem 100% honest due to her change of heart that we are both referencing.

I am not passing judgement on you or others who have had abortions.

Kind of funny to call it Rock N Roe considering Roe is now against abortion. http://www.sltrib.com/2003/Jun/06182003/nation_w/67145.asp

I am just reporting her feelings. I feel abortion should stay legal, but only privately funded.

Anyone seen King Lear? What did you think? Were the nudity scenes necessary to the plot?

It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish.

Mother Teresa

Todd, don't you know that she is Roe no more? http://www.roenomore.org ;-}

Damion, thanks for reminding me why I always want to gag when endless praise is heaped on the late Mother Theresa, a woman who preferred to see more children born into miserable poverty than to allow poor women to control the timing and number of their of own children.

And just in case that's too abstract, allow me to get personal. This web site would not exist if not for the existence of safe, legal abortion. If I had not had the CHOICE back when I needed it, I would not have the time, skills or inclination to get involved with local issues or blogging now. I would now be the mother of a teenager.

I didn't enjoy making that decision, but I don't regret it. I feel pretty confident that not only am I better off, but also that my (future, hopefully) child will be better off with an educated, employed, prepared adult for a parent.

We are very lucky to have Frank Heath running the Cradle - not only bringing lots of great music to us, but helping out with efforts like this.
