Final answer

Looks like Allen Baddour will get the second Superior Court seat as he has retained the same small margin he had after the provisional ballots were counted last week.

It took all day Tuesday for the ballots to be recounted, but when the final count was in, Baddour had received 17,228 votes, and Stein had received 17,165, a 63-vote difference.

Since we had four very talented and qualified candidates running for these two seats, I knew we'd have a good judge coming out of it either way. I do regret that our community will never get to have Adam Stein on the bench, but we still benefit from his work in so many other ways.

Congratulations, Allen. It's certainly nice to see someone my own age in a respected position of authority. Give 'em hell!

I think Ruby speaks for many Stein supporters. It is disappointing that Adam did not win. But it is in no way disappointing to have Allen as a winner. Congrats to Allen on his victory, and to all of us for having had four such excellent choices in the election for judge.

Ruby speaks for me, as does Dan.

Losing is a hard thing, I know full well. But Adam ran a very good campaign and should be proud of the strong support he built.

Best of luck to Judge Baddour!

Agree with your sentiments folks. I hope this election is used as an example for years to come that your vote makes a difference.

Ditto to all the above. I voted for Fox and Anderson, but I think Baddour will continue to be a fine judge and has a great future. Congrats to him.

Adam has conceded. Congratulations to Allen Baddour!

Next time we'll do a better job of convincing people that every vote counts in local elections. I'd like to see a study of the difference early voting makes. Congrats to Allen and kudos to Adam for showing so well.

Catherine, we know how many people voted, but we never know if they voted in this race, or if they cast one or two votes.

Interestingly enough, if you take the ORANGE County absentee mail and one stop votes, the finish was Fox, Stein, Anderson then Baddour. In the ORANGE County total, it was Fox, Stein, Baddour then Anderson. Over in Chatham, the finish was Fox, Baddour, Anderson, then Stein. The vote there had Stein 2,020 behind third place finisher Anderson and Anderson was 196 behind Baddour. Obviously, Chatham mattered for Baddour and hurt Stein.
