Greg Brusseau of Save Glen Lennox will be the guest on the Wednesday edition of WCOM's West End Report with LMT hosting. Greg will discuss the inside scoop he got from a N&O reporter about Grubb properties backing out of their bid and caving into the community to redesign their plan.
Tune into 103.5 LP FM (Carrboro/Chapel Hill area) at 6pm or you can stream us by clicking here. I'm hoping that Ruby calls us at the studio LIVE from the OP Happy Hour with an update: 919-929-9601. Freel free to call with questions. The first caller gets a Save Glen Lennox T-shirt!

Calling in
When you say you will, I say
When you say you will, I say you better! You better. You better. You bet :-)

Your bias is clear
LMT- when you cast Grubb's action in terms of "backing out" and "caving in" you're putting this stakeholder on the defensive right off the bat. You could have as easily emphasized their desire to make it right by the community - something that we should be encouraging in developers.
And?
Power to the People!
Thanks for your comment, Dave. I do appreciate it. However, and if you listened to my show today, I have and did mention that I am opposed to big, corporate development in the area that takes no consideration to the want and need of the people living in said area. However, you have your opinion, and I thank you for expressing it. Also, if you listened to Greg's comments on my show today, he said the neighborhood does not oppose development but does demand to be at the table and have a hand in designing and contributing to the development. Clearly define you mean when you say "stakeholder." The people were heard! Fist in the air! Our community is a force to be reckon with!

Focus on conflict vs. problem-solving
Well, sure we all have our opinions. I just keep looking for less purely partisan use of newspapers, radio & TV. The partisanship so often seems to get in the way of getting good factual information. I haven't heard your broadcasts before, Lynda-Marie, but your initial post sounded like you would have your opinions out front, rather than using the airwaves to help solve a problem.
So I'm with you on the issue - I'm tired of the grandiose kind of corporate development that gets rammed down peoples' throats. On the other hand, there other issues of infill, energy efficiency and water supply that I'd also like to hear discussed re GlenLennox or any other big project. Has there been any talk of how a new development there would affect the per person energy consumption rate on that plot of land? Which kind of development is more sustainable, the Glen as it is or as Grubb could make it?
If You Voice It, They Will Come
Well David, if you wanted the issues of infill, energy efficiency, and water supply to be put on the table for a Glen Lennox discussion, then you should say thank you to Greg Brusseau and others who pressured Grubb to "back out" of their deal thus "caving in" to the neighborhood's protest. Because NOW, those issues among others, will have to be addressed come August 19th and must include the opinions of neighboring residents! To answer your last question, sustainability was not in the initial hand that Grubb Properties dealt the residents of Glen Lennox, yet another issue those fine and vocal residents pushed for.
Regarding my show, I gave up on impartial and unbiased journalism well into the '90s when these folks bought out the free press. I am an independent journalist, and for that reason, I support and utilize the absolute freedom of community radio. There is no "man" for me to reckon with! Granted, omitting the seven dirty words you can't say on...still applies during non-safe harbor times and calls for action must be avoided, but other than that, you my friend, being a resident of Carrboro/Chapel Hill have the ability to submit a program proposal and voice your own biased opinions on any of our wonderful community media outlets: WCOM, The People's Channel, and here on OP.
For the record, that corporate-owned newspaper that recently laid off a bunch of local employees to outsource their jobs to India, got the tip that Grubb Properties reneged on their proposed designed, from....wait for it...OrangePolitics.org!
Back to my show though, I like to fancy myself as a "Jon Stewart" of a host for the Wednesday edition of WCOM's signature show, The West End report. After all, Stewart represents seriously impartial journalism in today's fair and balanced media world.
Thanks for listening (or not)!

Podcast
Jon is great - but so is Gwen Ifill.
Say, I don't yet see a podcast of your show with Gregg. Is it going to be put up?
That was the idea...
However, we are experiencing some technical difficulties at the station with backed up DJ files of past recordings. So, no, sadly it was not recorded which is a shame. Greg makes for a great guest, and we banter quite well. However, next week, Marth Crowley from El Futuro will be my guest. We shall discuss this among other things. 7/30 at 6pm listen here

Maybe no podcast
The WCOM engineer (Leo) is trying hard to clear out old files to make room for more recently aired shows. He has an emergency situation on his hands, with the DJ folders full to the point of gridlock. There might not have been room to record last evening's West End Report for temporary posterity.
This is too bad because the WCOM signal went all to hell last evening and LMT might not have had any listeners at all!
Rarrr, Ms. DeVine, LOVELY
Rarrr, Ms. DeVine, LOVELY pic! But Tsk, Tsk, I always have listeners and there was an online audience! However, I noticed driving to the Park & Ride today, that normally I get great reception in my car when I listen at 8am every weekday morning to Democracy Now, that although I could hear it, it didn't sound as crisp as usual. I wonder if literally the tower shifted in someway at Southern Village. I can't think of any other explanation for the sudden change in signal. That or the OTHER 103.5 (rock station in Greensboro) increased their frequency? Hmmmmmm
