I just want to add my thanks to Rickie who has contributed so much to to our community in general, and to OrangePolitics in particular. Check out his archive, which of course will remain on the site even when Rickie leaves Carrboro: http://OrangePolitics.org/author/rickie-white/
Rickie has also been an asset to the Midway/Broad Street/Northside area, to the local Democratic Party, to the local peace movement, and to his neighbors and friends (of which I happily count myself as both). I hate to lose him, but he is moving on to great opportunities both professionally and personally.
And of course Rickie is welcome to come back 'n see us any time, either physically or virtually!

The traditional dilemma of
The traditional dilemma of the irresistible force vs. the immovable object comes to mind in (as reported in the Herald's article on Monday) the need of AHEC for a convenient airport vs. the future location of Carolina North. Finding a new and acceptably near airport location is admittedly nigh impossible.
But how about this?: Build a heliport atop a Memorial Hospital parking deck for an AHEC helicopter that could transport AHEC personnel to an RDU base for its planes. Thus time and convenience would be satisfied, Horace Williams Airport could be closed, and construction on Carolina North started.

Will anybody please tell me why this is not a legitimate proposal for ending the logjam of Carolina North vs. AHEC @ Horace Williams Airport. I am given to understand that it is being given some consideration in UNC-CH decision-making circles:
