I believe that a healthy balance can be struck in this particular case of comparing and contrasting the need for a replacement homeless shelter with the need to protect undeveloped land. But, in the end, the homeless shelter situation needs to be resovled as a priority.

A new homeless shelter should not really have a subsantial effect on undeveloped land, because (in my view) the importance of having the homeless shelter in close vacinity to public transport and other public services, means keeping the facility very near town; a location which will likly be an existing site with buildings/or a site in the more densely populated town area. Sizing the homeless shelter correctly is (in my view) the most important consideration in addition to placement. It needs to be optimally sized in terms of capacity in order to avoid some of the pitfalls which have already been identified at the intersect point between the general public and homeless residents.

Seems to me we've already heard..."I don't want it near my home" and "I don't want it near my business." So, we know someone is going to be unhappy. Has anyone thought about the vacinity of the Human Services facility off of Homestead Road? Might be a problem for some as it is close to Public Parks and so forth. What about the Lincoln Center site where the School Offices are located? The schools have needed a new location for their offices some time now. What about in the vacinity of Carrboro Park off of Hwy 54? Is Carrboro an option, or just Chapel Hill?

I'm taking the title of this thread literally. Here's something I haven't seen in the local papers. Anyone know anything more than is reported in the Attorney General's press release:
