UNC
So I hesitate to begin my OrangePolitics presence by being a mooch, but as co-president of the UNC Young Democrats I wanted to invite everyone here to come to a comedy show we are hosting Tuesday night at 7pm at the Varsity Theater!
Jeff Kreisler is a nationally known progressive, liberal comedian in the vein of Jon Stewart, and UNCYD hopes to get a lot of people out to this event to help us raise money to continue the great work our members do all year long. Tickets are $4 and we will be selling vintage YD t-shirts and raffling off a $50 gift card to a Chapel Hill business.
We hope to see you there!

Apparently students have been applying to serve on the Town of Chapel Hill's Transportation Board, but none have been appointed recently. I'm a bit surprised to see this, but it's hard to draw conclusions without knowing the details of each applicant. In the past students have contributed a lot to the T-board (and others). In fact, joining the board when I was a student in 1991 is one of the things that got me hooked on participating in local politics two decades ago!
With a seat on the board, Medlin said students would have more of a voice about routes and bus schedule times.
Dakota Williams, student body treasurer, said students should embrace the higher fees and advocate for better representation.
“If we’re paying 41 percent … there is no excuse for a student not to be on that board,” he said.
“Those decisions need to be made by the people who are paying for them, which is students more than ever,” he added.

UNC students awakened during Chapel Hill break-ins
Chapel Hill, N.C. — Police were searching for a man who broke into two homes off Rosemary Street early Friday, awakening the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students who live there.
Both burglaries occurred between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. in the 300 block of Church Street and Pritchard Avenue, police said. In both cases, the man entered through unlocked front doors.
