This Week in Orange Politics: March 2-8

It’s another busy week for Orange County’s public bodies. The Carrboro Alderfolks will make several appointments and discuss the town’s affordable housing fund, while the Chapel Hill Council will hear about capital priorities. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board will consider designating over-  and under-crowded schools for the next school year, the county commissioners will review their legislative agenda and consider approving funds for the Family Success Alliance.

The Hillsborough Town Board and county school board are both in recess this week.

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

• Regular Meeting: Tuesday, March 3, 7:30 pm @ Carrboro Town Hall
  • The Board will consider making several appointments
  • The Board will discuss proposed revisions to the Affordable Housing Fund

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

• Work Session: Monday, March 2, 6pm @ Chapel Hill Public Library
  • Council will hear about capital project priorities and debt financing
  • Council will also receive a draft of the 2015-2025 State Transportation Improvement Program for review

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

• (RESCHEDULED DUE TO THE POTENTIAL FOR WINTER WEATHER)Business Meeting: Thursday, March 5, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • The Board will review its network security policy
  • The Board will also consider recommending approval of designation of over- and under-crowded schools 2015-16
  • The Board will also consider recommending approval of Obey Creek in response to the Town of Chapel Hill

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

• There is no meeting this week. The next meeting is Monday, March 9.

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

• Regular Meeting: Tuesday, March 3, 7 pm @ Richard Whitted Meeting Facility, Hillsborough
  • The Board will hold a public hearing on its proposed 2015 legislative agenda
  • The Board will consider approving funds for the Family Success Alliance
  • The Board will discuss a potential 2016 bond referendum
• (CANCELLED DUE TO THE POTENTIAL FOR WINTER WEATHER) Joint Meeeting with the Department of Social Services Board: Thursday, March 5, 5:30 pm @ Richard Whitted Meeting Facility, Hillsborough
  • The Board will review the agency's workload and needs
  • The Board will get a preview of upcoming initiatives and budget impacts

  • The Board will get an update on the bus and rail investment plan
  • The Board will receive the manager's recommended capital investment plan
