This Week in Orange Politics: March 16-22

It’s another busy week for Orange County’s elected bodies. The Carrboro Alderfolks will consider Shelton Station after a celebratory bike ride, while the Chapel Hill Town Council will take public comment on Obey Creek. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board will review the district budget for the upcoming year, while its county counterpart will receive that district’s accreditation exit report.

The county commissioners will get an update on the transit plan and talk employee benefits for the upcoming fiscal year. The Hillsborough Town Board is on break this week

CARRBORO BOARD OF ALDERPERSONS

• Regular Meeting: Tuesday, March 17, 7:30 pm @ Carrboro Town Hall
  • The meeting will be preceded by a bike ride and celebration in honor of Carrboro's receipt of the Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community status
  • The Board will discuss requests to modify and extend the Conditional Use Permit for Shelton Station.
  • The Board will set a public hearing for the Conditional Use Permit and Rezoning of the Rogers-Triem Lot at 501 S. Greensboro Road

CHAPEL HILL TOWN COUNCIL

• Public Hearing: Monday, March 16, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • Council will hold public hearings on LUMO changes related to the Board of Adjustment, the Weaver Crossing development, a rezoning of 1165 Weaver Dairy Road, and a rezoning of 523 E. Franklin St (the old library).
  • Council will also provide a public comment period for the Obey Creek development
• Work Session: Wednesday, March 18, 6pm @ Chapel Hill Public Library
  • At the time of this post, an agenda was not available for this meeting.

CHAPEL HILL-CARRBORO BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Work Session: Thursday, March 19, 7pm @ Chapel Hill Town Hall
  • This work session will focus on the superintendent’s recommended budget for 2015-16.

HILLSBOROUGH TOWN BOARD

• There is no meeting this week. The Board will hold its next regular meeting on Monday, March 23.

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

• Regular Meeting: Tuesday, March 17, 7 pm @ Southern Human Services Center, Chapel Hill
  • The Board will hold a public hearing on Orange Public Transportation’s ADA compliance plan
  • The Board will get an update and recommendations from staff on the employee benefits starting in July 2015
• Work Session: Thursday, March 19, 7 pm @ Richard Whitted Meeting Facility, Hillsborough
  • The Board will review the annual work plans and reports from the county’s various boards and commissions
  • The Board will get an update on the bus and rail investment plan

ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION

• Special Meeting: Wednesday, March 18, 1:30 pm @ Gravelly Hill Middle School Media Center, Efland
  • The Board will receive a district accreditation exit report from AdvancEd
