Carrboro police warn Carborro commune in advance of this Saturday's CVS protest

This time the Carrboro police has been nice enough to clarify the rules ahead of time:

"Hutchison said Carrboro Commune is welcome to protest as long as everyone stays on the sidewalk and out of the street. Anyone crossing the fence onto CVS property at 201 N. Greensboro St. will be warned to leave before officers start charging people with first-degree trespass, she said. Anyone who damages the fence, the building or land will be charged with damage to real property, she added."

Somehow I doubt that the flyer's assertion that all private property is theft is shared by many Carrboro residents.

Anarchists/Carrboro Commune Back for More

That didn't take long:  in a new blog post, the Carrboro Commune announces they're going to be doing some illegal gardening.  The fence that's supposed to be going up will prevent some of that if they can get it installed before March 8, but I imagine a fence isn't going to stop anarchists given you can either hop the fence or cut through it at night.

The interesting thing about the announcement to me is they now have a press contact, Maria Rowan, and are linking to press coverage of the event.  I wonder if Maria will wear a black mask to the event?

"If we can occupy a building, what else might we seize"?

http://www.crimethinc.com/blog/2011/11/27/breaking-and-entering-a-new-world/

"Underground Reverie" proporting to be involved in the Yates building seizure have published a slideshow telling their side of the story.  Its interesting that they seem to equate property rights and repression, and view this as just one battle in a larger war.  The question "If we can occupy a building, what else might we seize" implies they're wanting to come back and try this again.  Personally, I hope they don't "start taking over" as vast majority of Chapel Hill/Carborro residents really don't want to have their democracy overthrown by anarchists, thank you very much for not asking.

And then there's the signs that say "Off the pigs", "pigs gonna pay", and "all cops are bastards".

Bad apples

I thought Apple Chill and the motorcycle festival and the associated traffic management was handled very well today.

Unfortunately, a few idiots have chosen mess it up for the rest of us. "Two people have been taken to UNC Hospitals Sunday night after four shots were fired on Franklin Street." - WRAL.com News

UPDATE: "Forty-five minutes after the initial shooting Jarvies said police received another report of gunshots fired several blocks east of 110 W. Franklin Street. In a third incident, a gun was brandished, but no shots were fired." - N&O: Three people shot in Chapel Hill
