Back in March, members of the OCTS-Lincoln-Northside alumni group spoke at a CHCCS School Board meeting asking that we name the new elementary school, located between McMasters and Caldwell, "Northside Elementary" to continue the proud tradition of education that has occurred on that site.
In our board meeting tonight, there was a suggestion from a board member that we go ahead and act quickly on this, while we have plenty of things like Common Core and redistricting to worry about and we're down a staff member for community relations who would normally drive this process, and make the easy decision to name Elementary #11 as Northside Elementary.
OP has been a great source for name ideas before. How does this community feel about resurrecting the Northside name for this elementary school?

Obvious and Necessary
I think you can skip the usual feedback process on this. It's not just an easy decision; it borders on not being a decision. The district would never call it anything else.
Agree with JAN
No other name would be acceptable.
Agreed
Northside Elementary makes complete sense.
new school name
I also agree.Loren
Another consideration
I also think that simply going through the motions when the decision is a foregone conclusion is unfair and unfeeling to those who put forward other names. Asking for feedback when you know that you are not going to meaningfully consider it is a bad move.
My previous comments on this
http://orangepolitics.org/2012/01/new-elementary-school-details#comment-135095 I don't have a very strong opinion about this, but wasn't the previous school on that site called Northside Elementary? Why would we go with a different name? The days of segregated schools are an unfortunate chapter in American history, but I think we should embrace that history rather than sweeping it under the rug. When segregation ended, the CHCCS Board did not integrate all of the existing schools. They closed all of the African American schools and integrated the white schools. Without passing judgment on why that was done, it did have the side-effect of threatening to wipe away the role that black public schools played in the community.Perhaps naming the new school Northside Elementary would honor the legacy of our segregation-era African-American schools, teachers, coaches and principals (and principles for that matter). As with Morris Grove Elementary, the name of the school itself could provide a "teachable moment."I say all that without having heard any other suggestions for a name.
its a great name. just
its a great name. just do it.
As a parent of two children
As a parent of two children who will probably be districted there, I'm all for Northside Elementary. James I would act quickly were I in your position.
has there been another name proffered?
If no one has suggested an alternative, I don't see a good reason not to name it Northside Elementary. The only caveat I can see would be if there was an established naming process that would be short-circuited; then you might want to make sure that's addressed appropriately.
process
Yes, process is the question. There's worked involved in that process, and if we all know the result we want, does it make sense to undergo a process? Especially given everything else going on this fall and missing the person who normally does this process. So the choices are do the work to come to the conclusion of Northside Elementary or just have the approval as an agenda item (people can still come speak for/against before we vote).
