Elections 2021

Local elections will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, for the Carrboro Town Council, the Chapel Hill Town Council, the Hillsborough Board of Commissioners, and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education.

Carrboro

In Carrboro, the mayor and 3 council members are up for election.

  • Voters will elect a mayor to serve a 2-year term for the seat currently held by incumbent Lydia Lavelle (who has announced she will not seek another term).
  • Voters will elect 3 council members to 4-year terms.

Chapel Hill

In Chapel Hill, the mayor and 4 council member seats are up for election.

  • Voters will elect a mayor to a 2-year term for the seat currently held by incumbent Pam Hemminger.
  • Voters will elect 4 council members to 4-year terms. There is currently a vacant seat, left when Rachel Schaevitz moved.

Hillsborough

In Hillsborough, the mayor and 2 commissioner seats are up for election.

  • Voters will elect a mayor to a 2-year term for the seat currently held by incumbent Jennifer Weaver.
  • Voters will elect 3 commissioners to 4-year terms.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education

In the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school board race, 4 seats are up for election. Note: This information will be updated as we learn more. School Board Member Joal Hall Broun has been appointed to a judgeship and her seat will need to be filled.
