Democracy & Open Government

Should the new Council decide the 5th seat or should the current council ?

African-American Representation on the Chapel Hill Town Council

The Truth About Voter Owned Elections and why Penny Rich is Participating

It is important to recognize that the goal of Voter Owned Elections is not simply to reign in campaign spending but to put government back into the hands of the public.  Voter Owned Elections help to ensure that politicians are accountable to the voters and not to well-funded special interest groups that donate large sums to campaigns.  Public campaign financing also ensures that marginalized groups, such as women, minorities and low-income citizens who may not have access to special interest funding or the ability to loan themselves large sums of money still have an opportunity to participate in the electoral process.

Citizens for Responsible Government

I Accuse! An Open Letter to Congressman David Price

As constituents of the 4th District we have a responsibility to hold our representative to the House of Representatives, Congressman David Price, accountable for his lopsided, and unconscionable support and sanctioning of the state of Israel's current massacre of Gazans in our name.  His 'thoughtful comments' are not sufficient to cover for his unthoughtful action as expressed with his vote in favor of HR 34 last Friday.  I invite all to join Dr. Sarah Shields in this open letter to David Price.
