In my last blog I challenged the assertion made by councilman Czajowski that rising taxes were impacting the demographics of Chapel Hill in a manner which was reducing diversity in town. I also thought, given that property taxes are being raised by several candidates in the race, that it would be good to review them. Please check me if I am in error, but I believe the current tax rate for someone living in Chapel Hill (as I do) is:
I ran across the yard sign pictured at left quite a few times as I was driving through central Orange County today, particularly plastered along the strip-mall section of Hillsborough along Churton St between the two interstates. Something tells me these folks aren't interested in "revolting" by lobbying their state representatives to allow us to utilize alternative revenue options. Does anyone have any insight about the story behind the signs? Is this a grassroots effort or is there an existing anti-tax group sponsoring this?
I have heard a rumor that Orange County is set to significantly raise property taxes. Can anyone comment on this?
